What this site is for

This is patient education about the fold between the cheek and the upper lip, published by Chongqing West District Hospital, a tertiary general hospital in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It is a concern guide rather than a procedure page: it answers why the fold is there, whether it needs treatment, and which of several paths applies. The operations themselves, and the anatomy they work on, are explained on the facial hub and on Dr. Mao’s own site, and repeating them here would help nobody.

The distinction the site is built on

A wrinkle is a crease in skin and a nasolabial fold is a junction between two structures. The first can be filled flat, because the material disappears into the tissue and the surface levels. The second cannot, because the cheek and the lip are still at different levels on either side of it. That is why a fold treated as a line so often produces a wider, heavier midface instead of a softer one, and why this site treats the position of the cheek as the finding that decides the plan.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not name products or brands, quote prices or dosages, or promise a result. It does not present a cream as an alternative to treatment where the cheek has descended, or a filler as a substitute for a lift where a lift is the honest answer. It does not describe operative technique, because that belongs to the pages that cover the surgery. And it does not treat a fold that appeared over weeks, a one-sided change, facial weakness, numbness or a lump as an appearance problem at any point.

The limits of a website

Nothing here can tell you whether your own fold is descent, volume loss, bone change, muscle action or simply anatomy. That requires someone to look at the face at rest and in a smile, to note where the cheek sits, to move the skin and to ask about the mouth and teeth — observations that take minutes in person and cannot be made from a photograph. Use this site to arrive at an assessment with better questions, and treat any answer you receive here as general information rather than as advice about you.
